Route overview
Coronado sits across San Diego Bay from the airport and is reached either over the San Diego–Coronado Bridge or, from the south, along the Silver Strand. Most airport trips use the bridge.
The bridge is the variable. It carries commuter, base and visitor traffic, and backups build during weekday peaks and on busy summer weekends. Once you are across, Coronado itself is small and easy to move around.
Orange Avenue, the resort corridor and the residential streets each have their own drop-off patterns, so a specific street address gets you to the door rather than the neighborhood.
Why reserve
Coronado is an island community with limited parking, and many visitors arrive without a car on purpose.
Guests usually land with full luggage for a multi-night stay. A vehicle sized for the bags avoids a second trip or a cramped ride across the bridge.
Coronado hosts a lot of weekend events. Guests arrive on different flights and often need coordinated transportation to the same address.
Strollers, car seats and beach equipment fill a trunk quickly. Vehicle size is set when you book.
Coronado has a significant military community, and travel to and from the island is routine for personnel, families and visitors.
Vehicle options
One passenger in a sedan, a family in an SUV, eight travelers in a passenger van or an accessible vehicle — the vehicle is matched to the trip, not the other way around.

Coronado is home to Navy facilities, and DriveWize regularly arranges transportation for personnel, families and visitors. Base access rules are set by each installation, and our drivers with base access can be requested when a trip requires it.
