Wheelchair accessible transportation

Wheelchair Accessible Rides Across San Diego.

Ramp-equipped vehicle options with proper securement, companion seating and the same upfront pricing as every other DriveWize trip.

Accessible transportation in San Diego is usually either a medical transport service with a clinical feel, or a rideshare gamble that may or may not send a vehicle you can actually board. DriveWize handles it as ordinary transportation: you reserve a trip, you see the price, and a ramp-equipped vehicle shows up at the time you booked.

The accessible vehicle in our fleet is a purpose-built VPG MV-1 — a factory-built wheelchair accessible vehicle with an integrated ramp, a wide door opening and a securement system designed for it, rather than a converted minivan with equipment added after the fact.

Passengers use these vehicles for San Diego International Airport transfers, medical appointments, family events, work travel, conventions and everyday trips throughout San Diego County.

What's included

  • Ramp-equipped VPG MV-1 accessible vehicle
  • Four-point securement for wheelchairs and scooters
  • Companion and caregiver seating included
  • SAN airport arrivals and departures
  • Medical appointment transportation
  • Accessible transportation for events and conventions

Accessible vehicle availability is confirmed at the time of reservation. DriveWize provides passenger transportation, not medical transport — we do not provide gurney service, oxygen, or medical monitoring en route.

How it works

What Accessible Actually Means Here.

Operational detail, so you know exactly what arrives and what happens at the curb.

Ramp entry, not a lift-and-transfer

Our accessible vehicle options are ramp-equipped, so a passenger can board while seated in their own wheelchair. No transfer into a standard seat is required unless the passenger prefers one.

Securement you can see

Wheelchairs and scooters are secured with a four-point tie-down system before the vehicle moves. Drivers are trained on the securement equipment in the vehicle they are assigned.

Room for a companion

Every accessible reservation includes seating for a companion, caregiver or family member traveling with the passenger. Tell us the party size when you reserve so we assign the right vehicle.

Luggage and mobility equipment

Airport trips often involve a wheelchair plus checked bags. Note your luggage count in the reservation so the vehicle assigned has the cargo room for both.

Doorway to doorway

Drivers meet passengers at the door rather than waiting at the curb, and assist with loading. For airport arrivals, meet-and-greet inside the terminal can be arranged.

Reserved in advance

Accessible vehicles are a limited part of any fleet. Reserving ahead — ideally 24 hours or more — is the reliable way to get one for your exact time.

Traveling to or from an installation? Military base transportation can be arranged with an accessible vehicle as well.
